5th Generation Series Chardonnay, Kumeu, Soljans Estate
This is the debut chardonnay from the Kumeu vineyard of a West Auckland Octogenerian producer, and it’s an absolute star. Celebrating the welcoming of the fifth generation of Soljan family members (Tyler and Amber) into the family business. This wine is very limited and will only be made on outstanding years of harvest.
Barrel aged for 18 months in 50% new French Oak, with 100% malolactic fermentation allows this wine to be very well balanced. A youthful, yet soft, peach and pineapple bouquet, complimented by sparks of lemon rind and toasted oak. The palate is like a fresh crème brûlée, delicately covered in nectarines. Toasted almond and vanilla brioche completes the experience with a smooth buttery finish, which comes from the malolactic fermentation. Drinking outstandingly now, this wine will also age gracefully for many years.
A style of wine that can pair well with most foods, lighter dishes would bring out the best in this wine, or perhaps an antipasto platter.
