Poland

The production of domestic wine was revived only at the beginning of the 21st century and since then it has been growing dynamically – from 27 vineyards in 2000 we have over 500 today! Due to the climate, they are mainly concentrated in the south of Poland, Podkarpacie, Małopolska, Lower Silesia and Lubuskie with Zielona Góra as the capital of Polish wine. Mainly hybrids are grown, due to their resistance to frost. These are mainly the white varieties Solaris, Johanniter, Jutrzenka and Seyval Blanc, and the red varieties – Rondo, Regent, Cabernet Cortis, Marechal Foch and Leon Millot. Due to global warming, vitis vinifera grapes are also being planted more and more often, especially Chardonnay, Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Noir or Zweigelt. Polish wines have a character typical for wines of a cool climate, aromas of local fruit predominate; apples, pears, blueberries, elderberries or mint. The quality of domestic wines is increasing every year and it is definitely worth keeping up to date with new products on the market.
