Duckhorn

Founded in 1976 by Dan and Margaret Duckhorn, this is one of Napa’s classiest wineries. While best known for its limited production wines from classic Bordeaux grapes, it also produces some stunning Pinot Noir in the Anderson Valley to the north as well as Zinfandel at one of seven meticulously farmed estates in the various micro-climates of the Napa Valley. You get a sense of what Duckhorn is about when you visit the Estate House near Calistoga at the northern (and prettiest) end of the Napa Valley. The tastings are sophisticated, the gardens beautiful and the wildfowl art collection built up over the years a real treat to view. Some of the finest of their wildfowl paintings adorn the labels of the Duckhorn’s wines – art and wine in the best possible sense.
