Italy
Italy is the largest producer of wine in the world, and the tradition of exporting this drink dates back to the times of ancient Greece, when it was called Oenotria – the land of wine. Individual regions are famous for their own indigenous grape varieties and distinctive wine styles, such as Sangiovese in Tuscany or Nebbiolo in Piedmont. These styles are recognizable all over the world, probably everyone has heard of Chianti or Barolo. However, the tradition, carefully cultivated here, does not exclude modernity and an innovative approach. Thanks to the courage to change, such great wines as super-Tuscans have been created, but the real strength of Italy is the renaissance of local, endemic varieties that are currently flourishing, which not only offer new flavours, but can also help the wine industry survive in the face of a rapidly changing climate.
